In naming The Last of Us our second best game of 2013, I said that the game’s narrative could possibly be the most memorable and affecting game narrative I’ve seen in a video game. The developers strongly recommend that you play the original game before going through the DLC, so go play it before you dig into this review. Warning: This review necessarily includes some spoilers about the story from The Last of Us. I enjoyed Left Behind immensely, and it’s made me want to revisit The Last of Us for another play-through.Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment America For those that like to stretch their dollars, you’ll probably want to hold off until it’s on sale or the price is reduced. If you played and enjoyed The Last of Us, there’s no doubt in my mind that you should experience Left Behind. But I suspect some people might want a little more bang for their buck. Not that that would have stopped me from buying it, had I known how short it was prior to downloading. While it’s top notch content, it’s still tough to justify $15 for 2-3 hours of gameplay. There’s only really one down-side to Left Behind, and that’s the price. It’s a shame Naughty Dog didn’t think of this sooner, as I quite enjoyed these scenarios and would have loved more time with them in The Last of Us. In one case, I was able to clear a room by simply throwing a bottle. Which gives us a chance to decide how things will play out. Often, Ellie ends up entering an area where neither are aware of the other’s presence. Sneaking and firing from a distance or great height are the only ways she can succeed in a battle.įor the first time, the player is put in situations where we have to deal with infected and humans at the same time. She can’t stand her ground in a melee fight with, well, anyone. Ellie needs to keep her distance from enemies, as she’s still a young girl. While she can wield a bow, guns, and a knife. And the post-Joel, hardened Ellie, who is fairly capable of taking care of herself. So essentially, we’re playing as two versions of Ellie. This provides the action, and also fills a gap in the main story. There are flash-forward scenes, to a point in The Last of Us where Joel is injured and Ellie is out looking for meds. But at the same time, it was great to be able to see Ellie in a different light.īut it’s not all hand-holding and skipping. To see Ellie so happy and full of life was pretty heartbreaking, since we know the events of The Last of Us are just around the corner. A few in particular, where the girls are having so much fun together, it seems like they forget about the world around them, at least temporarily. There are some beautifully scripted and acted scenes in Left Behind. Over the course of 2-3 hours, we learn what happened before Riley left, why the unsettling feeling between them, and spend some time watching these girls enjoy each other’s company and have fun as friends. The girls set out on their own, as Riley has a special place she wants Ellie to experience. Ellie had feared her dead, and there’s some immediate awkwardness between the two of them, so it’s pretty clear that they had some sort of falling out before Riley left. The story starts off with Riley returning “home” after being away for a number of weeks. We know from any promotional material for this DLC, that Left Behind features another young female Ellie’s friend, Riley. Set just weeks before the events of The Last of Us, Left Behind puts the player entirely in Ellie’s inexperienced shoes. With The Last of Us being one of the best games of the PlayStation 3 generation, I was eager to jump back into it with the first (and only) story-based DLC, Left Behind.

Swordsmen get a sword and shield, but they move slowly when they're blocking. There are five classes of characters to be in Fat Princess, and each has their own pros and cons. Big gals are heavy and that means your opponents are going to have in groups to carry her fat ass back home. You'll then bring these snacks to the opponent's princess, force her to eat them, and watch her get fatter. Now, you can kill these guys if you like, but your best defense is to go outside of your stronghold and find pieces of cake and other dessert items. All the enemies that are assaulting your base will be trying to get in and get their fair lady out. When you start a game, each team's base will have their opponent's princess inside. Now, kill Tom Nook! The goal of these battles depends on the mode you're playing - obviously team deathmatch is all about eradicating the other squad - but at the heart of the game is Capture the Princess. The result of some screwed up cloning project involving Animal Crossing, Strawberry Shortcake, and Warhawk Fat Princess puts you on a team of eight to 32 cute-as-pie cartoony male and female characters lets you choose from eight to ten dessert-themed levels such as Coco Cliffs and Black Forest, and proceeds to place you in some of the bloodiest battles seen on this platform. If you're even aware of Fat Princess, it's probably just that quick snippet we saw during Sony's E3 press conference this morning, and that doesn't even begin to do the title from Darkstar and Sony justice. Archangel Gabriel: Gabriel is a total badass, and the trumpeter and chief guard of all the angels.Large portions of the work are dedicated to his rousing speeches as well as his anguished self-reflections. Anti-Villain: Satan is a persuasive and often pathetic individual whom the reader is often encouraged to admire or pity. There are also the briefly touched upon entities Chaos and Old Night. Anthropomorphic Personification: The two other members of Satan's incestuous parody of the Trinity represent Sin and Death. The "squid" faction is represented by Chaos and his courtiers. Angels, Devils and Squid: Yes really, although the focus is very much on the former two.The rest of the poem follows chronologically from there, except for a few flash-forwards. Roughly the middle third of the poem is occupied with various flashbacks to before this point, narrated by the angel Raphael, who describes the creation of the universe, the coronation of the Son, the war in heaven and Satan's defeat, as well as the creation of the Earth. The poem begins after Satan's army has been cast into the newly created hell, nearly halfway through the story, chronologically speaking. Anachronic Order: Like many other epics, Paradise Lost doesn't just begin In Medias Res, it uses non-linear time extensively.
